The Hotel Valencia, a twelve-story, 213-room boutique hotel, is part of a Houston Street redevelopment project. The Italian Mediterranean style building with bright colors and simple lines features elevators and a grand staircase connecting Houston Street to the riverside restaurant and the River Walk. Of commercial structures built by George M. Maverick on the site, the most distinctive—an 1898 two-story building designed by Alfred Giles at the corner of St. Mary’s Street—was incorporated into the hotel project and restored to its original appearance. Its missing upper-level bay windows were replicated.
