 Marion Weiss is co-founder of WEISS/MANFREDI and the Graham Chair Professor of Practice at the University of Pennsylvania&rsquo;s Weitzman School of Design. Her New York City-based multidisciplinary practice is known for the dynamic integration of architecture, art, infrastructure, and landscape. Notable projects include the Seattle Art Museum: Olympic Sculpture Park, recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the &ldquo;top ten architectural marvels.&rdquo; Her work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Sao Paulo Biennale, the Guggenheim Museum, the Cooper-Hewitt, the National Building Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. She is a National Academy Inductee and recipient of Architecture Records 2017 Design Leader Award. Her firm has also been recognized with the New York Center for Architecture President&rsquo;s Award, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Architecture, and the 2020 Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture.                                                 Olympic Sculpture Park is the winning design of an international competition by WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism.

Envisioned as a new model for an urban sculpture park, the project is located on a industrial site at the water’s edge in Seattle, Washington. The design creates a continuous constructed landscape for art, forms an uninterrupted Z-shaped “green” platform, and descends 40 feet from the city to the water, capitalizing on views of the skyline and Elliot Bay and rising over the existing infrastructure to reconnect the urban core to the revitalized waterfront.

An exhibition pavilion provides space for art, performances and educational programming. From this pavilion, the pedestrian route descends to the water, linking three new archetypal landscapes of the northwest: a dense temperate evergreen forest, a deciduous forest and a shoreline garden. The design not only brings sculpture outside of the museum walls but brings the park itself into the landscape of the city.

 Architects Michael Manfredi and Marion Weiss talk about the Brooklyn Botanical Garden Visitor Center. The architects consciously designed the space takes the viewer from a piece of architecture to something that is almost exclusively a landscape.

<p>As Marion and Michael had just released the book Public Natures, relating architecture to landscape, and had recently completed the redo of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden buildings, I wanted something referencing green. Michael grew up in Italy and loved the Negroni, while Marion cleaves almost uniquely to prosecco. That led naturally to a Negroni Sbagliato, clarified and with one tiny aromatic embellishment from cucumber.</p>
