Sarah Rapelje, was the first European Christian female child in New Netherland, born to Walloon Calvinists Joris Jansen Rapelje and Catalina Trico. The family initially settled at Fort Orange (modern Albany) before moving to New Amsterdam and later Long Island's Wallabout Bay. Sarah married Hans Hansen Bergen in 1639, with whom she had eight children, and later Teunis Gysbertse Bogaert, with whom she had seven more.
She lived through the transition from Dutch to English rule, passing away in 1685 in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
