He is best known for his large-scale light-based installations originally inspired by a camping trip to Uluru in Australia in 1992. An artist diarist, for over 30 years he has collected and recorded ideas in his sketchbooks which are reflected in his numerous installations around the world, including in the United Kingdom, Japan, Denmark, Australia, and eight states in the United States. His first Field of Light was realized in 2004, and his artistic journey is the subject of a recent book Light Field – The Art of Bruce Munro by Fiona Graber.
