A notorious American mobster who became boss of the Gambino crime family after orchestrating the 1985 murder of Paul Castellano. Rising from poverty, Gotti gained power through his criminal earnings and mentorship under underboss Aniello Dellacroce. Known as “the Dapper Don” for his flashy style and “the Teflon Don” for initially escaping conviction, Gotti attracted media attention while leading one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the U.S. In 1992, after his underboss Sammy “The Bull” Gravano turned state's witness, Gotti was convicted of multiple crimes including murder and racketeering.
