2 Boeing 767 jets flew into the Twin Towers in a coordinated act of terrorism. Both buildings collapsed; the attacks killed 2,753 victims. The largest civilian water evacuation in history at Ground Zero.

The original World Trade Center (WTC) was a large complex of seven buildings in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed during the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.&nbsp;

The master plan to redevelop former industrial piers into a 92-acre commercial, residential, and park area. &nbsp;The landfill was to be sourced from the 3 million cubic yards of material to be excavated for the World Trade Center foundations.

After the World Trade Center attack, the materials from the World Trade Center site were brought to the West Mound during a temporary suspension of the closure.

At 1388 ft, the World Trade Center became the World's Tallest Building.
