The Chamber of Commerce in the City of New York held meetings on its second floor from 1770 until the Revolutionary War. The New York State Legislature starting in 1785; the federal court of the District of New York (Southern District of New York), 1789-1790 convened in the building. The U.S. Supreme Court also convened in the building for its inaugural session in February 1790 and subsequently in August 1790 before moving to Philadelphia in 1791.
Built as a one-story covered marketplace.
The Royal Exchange building in New York City, initially a one-story structure built in 1675, was later reconstructed in 1752 with an added meeting hall on the upper floor. Resembling market halls in Europe, it stood near the intersection of Broad Street and Water Street.
The Royal Exchange building was ultimately demolished.
Feb 2, 1790-The United States Supreme Court convened here from February 2-10, 1790, and again in August, 1790.
1st museum in NYC-The museum moved to the Merchant's Exchange in 1794 when the room in City hall proved to be too small. The museum was unsuccessful, and the Society severed its connections with it in 1795.
