Often considered one of the most gifted presidents, John Quincy Adams had a long and storied career. The son of John and Abigail Adams, he was brought up in Europe when his father was serving as the Ambassador to France, the Netherlands and then England. Educated at Harvard, he was trained as a lawyer. He was elected to the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. He also served as Secretary of State before being elected President in 1824.
