The resolutions made at Burns' Coffee House in response to the Stamp Act and restrictive trade laws were pivotal. Merchants agreed not to import goods from Great Britain unless the Stamp Act was repealed. Orders already sent were to be countermanded, and goods shipped after January 1st would not be sold unless the act was revoked. These resolutions were binding until further notice and were signed by over 200 merchants. Retailers also pledged not to purchase goods shipped from Britain under the same conditions.
