Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an incredibly influencial and prolific American sculptor. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1848, his family immigrated to New York shortly after his birth. Taking art classes at Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design when young, he also traveled to Rome and Italy to study and learn. Later in life, he taught at the Art Students League of New York, and worked in support of the American Academy in Rome. He died in 1907, leaving a legacy of sculptures and students.
