William Sharples applies a background in engineering to more than 30 years of industry leadership in design and master planning, working in complex, urban contexts to create dynamic projects that transform communities. William holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University. His SHoP projects include New York City’s East River Waterfront, the Botswana Innovation Hub in Gaborone, Collins Arch in Melbourne, Atlassian HQ in Sydney, Hudson’s Site in Detroit, and a portfolio of long-term high-profile work around the world as the recipient of a Design Excellence contract with the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO). Beyond the studio, William has earned a reputation as a leader for his generation of architects and a powerful advocate for design quality and the importance of continued process innovation in contemporary construction. In 2018 he Co-Founded Assembly OSM, a modular company that delivers architecturally distinctive high-rise buildings through a technology advanced process of digital design, manufacturing, assembly, and on-site installation.
