Joining the likes of Patrick Henry in opposing the Stamp Act, Francis Lightfoot Lee, brother of RH Lee, was a radical elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1765, where he served until 1775. He played a key role in the call for a general congress and a Virginia Convention in 1774, and attended the convention before being sent to the first Continental Congress the same year. Working on numerous committees, he represented Virginia in the Congress until 1779, when he retired and returned home. After a brief stint in the Virginia Senate, he retired from public office and lived a private life.
