Spread over an area of 9 acres, the India Habitat Centre is a convention centre combining individuals and institutions of varied environment and habitat related departments. With the aim to change the conventional image of an office space, IHC houses art galleries, library and resource centre, learning centre, amphitheatre, conference and banquet halls, restaurants which share multiple courtyards with the office spaces. IHC is a spectacular example of a contemporary building made with traditional materials and techniques.
In keeping with its habitat theme, the whole complex has been generously provided with natural greenery to provide an undiluted experience of open nature.
Pedestrian entrance to the centre depicts a seemingly long deep corridor distinguishing it from the vehicular entrance.
The whole complex consists of five main building blocks with aerial walkways interconnecting the building blocks.
The roof shading devices not only look spectacular in sky blue, but also serve to block out the Sun’s rays.
The external facade is in a language of exposed red brick, exposed concrete and glass.
The use of a skytilght dome at the vehicular entrance creates an interesting drop off area.
Though of an imposing nature, the building complex manages to blend in with its surroundings through its natural embellishments.
The various offices share common lobbies, open spaces and courtyards.
The three art galleries of the complex provide a platform for artists to display their artwork.
