The Tina and Hamid Moghadam Building, also known as Building 55, is located at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Completed in 2023, it connects with and adds space and programs to the Green Building (Building 54), creating a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary environmental research and education. The building serves as the new headquarters and a gateway entrance for three related departments: MIT’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI), and the MIT-WHOI Joint Program1. It provides reception and office spaces, conference and study rooms, and classrooms, adding approximately 11,900 square feet of new space. The exterior of the Moghadam Building is sheathed with an innovative system of wood composite panels overlaid with bracketed glass panels that reflect the surrounding trees and green space. The building is designed to help draw top faculty and students to MIT. In addition, the building houses the first major public art commission in the United States by Julian Charrière, titled "Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More". This installation is composed of three works that are carefully brought into dialogue with the building’s architecture.
