Maxwell-Dworkin was built for Harvard's Engineering and Applied Sciences division and opened in 1999. It was designed by Payette Associates of Boston. The site is named after Mary Maxwell Gates and Beatrice Dworkin Ballmer, mothers of Microsoft Chairman William H. Gates III and Microsoft President Steven A. Ballmer.
