The Discovery Center is a children's learning facility within the new Children's Adventure Garden. This eight-acre garden is a series of landscaped and built interactive environments designed to teach urban children plant science, ecology and bio-diversity. The shingle style Discovery Center welcomes school groups and families in from Discovery Plaza with deep overhanging eaves and tree trunk columns. The building houses offices, storage, a resource center for school teachers, and the laboratory spaces: the Kid's Herbarium and Greenhouse opening out to the plaza and Wonder Gallery to the south, the Science Lab extending to the Sun, Dirt and Water Gallery to the north. The exposed timber structure and ductwork turn the facility itself into a lesson on how buildings work.
