The Yokohama Museum of Art was founded in 1989 and is located in the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama, next to the Yokohama Landmark Tower. It is one of the largest art museums in Japan. The museum holds a wide range of artworks from the latter 19th century, when Yokohama opened its port, to the present day. This includes works by artists closely associated with Yokohama as well as works by seminal modern artists. The collection consists of approximately 13,000 pieces, including paintings, prints, sculptures, crafts, photography, and experimental film. The museum also offers various workshops for children and adults.
