Vault House

Vault House, designed by Johnston Marklee, is located in Oxnard, California, and challenges typical beachfront house designs. Completed in 2013, the home features a series of stacked, unidirectional vaulted rooms within a simple rectilinear volume. These vaulted rooms filter natural light and offer oblique views throughout the house. The house comprises multiple levels and includes unique design elements like a courtyard acting as the central outdoor space, connecting all areas of the home. The use of materials like limestone floors and painted drywall emphasizes a minimalist yet resilient approach, suitable for the harsh coastal environment.
