The project is composed of an almost continuous palisade of mid-height apartment buildings punctuated by four twin-towered icons that establish it as an internationally acknowledged archetype of Manhattan and of modernity. Fifteen Central Park West consists of two buildings: a nineteen-story apartment house on the park reinforcing the palisade, and, relating to the four towers, a soaring thirty-five-story tower behind, separated by a garden and motor court but connected at street level by a domed elliptical pavilion. In contrast to the dark reflective glass of recent buildings around Columbus Circle, Fifteen Central Park West is clad in limestone, traditionally the material of choice for New York's most important buildings; no material takes the light more beautifully
