This Con Edison facility is located on the east side of Manhattan adjacent to the FDR Drive overlooking the East River. Designed to utilize and demonstrate contemporary strategies for energy conservation and sustainability, the building houses technicians and equipment for servicing Con Ed's steam, gas and electric distribution systems throughout Manhattan. The 3-story building contains a storage facility for tools, parts, and other materials required for routine and emergency repairs on the ground floor. The second floor houses the various operating departments with muster rooms and locker facilities. The third floor is a flexible, open office floor for the engineering and technical support staff, organized around a central core. The sophisticated curved curtain wall offers views of the East River, maximizing daylight while limiting direct sunlight into the facility. The central skylight on the third level brings additional daylight deep into the building. Location: New York, New York Client: Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.
