Covenant

Liberman's intention was to create a "feeling of bonding together for a higher purpose". It was purchased as part of a citywide ordinance which requires that 1% of expenditures for any city-assisted construction be spent on public art. In 1975, the unusual sculpture opened to mixed reviews from the University's newspaper, "The Daily Pennsylvanian" with some comparing it to giant ketchup bottles; others to nuclear reactors.
