At 12-stories tall, the stainless steel Unisphere is the world's largest structure of a globe. It was constructed as the Theme Symbol for the 1964 World's Fair. It was dedicated to "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe." The Sphere was designed by the same firm that did the landscape architecture for Flushing Meadows for the 1964 Fair.
