This building, public space, water wall, garden and outdoor restaurant facility was designed as one of the five main processionals for Seville World Expo 92, providing access to a series of national pavilions and accommodating the main monorail station. The three hundred meter long, ribbon-like configuration is conceived as a site-specific experience, celebrating the topography of the Guadaquivir River and its history as a route to the sea for 15th Century nautical explorers. It also represents the expo theme of ‘discovery` and the emerging relationship between technological and ecological initiatives in the 21st Century. A massive, landscape-covered arcade shelters the processional, providing natural water and vegetation protection from the summer heat of Seville.
