Noguchi won this commission in 1932 to create a large sculpture for the building's former tenant, the Associated Press. The sculpture, the first large sculpture to be cast in stainless steel, represents the workers at the Associated Press. Five modernist figures are depicted in actions such as typing on a typewriter, writing down the story, talking on the phone, and taking a photograph.
