Subway Riders

Ralph Fasanella, an acclaimed urban folk artist, claimed to be inspired by the subway, calling it an influence on his art as well as a place for him to work on his sketches. He liked the way it brought New Yorkers together. It is fitting, then, that this 1950 painting, Subway Riders, hangs in the 5th Ave - 53rd St station today. An MTA Arts for Transit project.
