According to the Brooklyn Eagle, 'on the morning of November 3, 1893 a very attractive young woman was waiting on the sidewalk in front of the Tombs Prison. She was a visitor, her name was Maggie Jordan and she wanted to see her lover who was William J Sharkey, one of the most notorious criminals of the period.' He was incarcerated for the murder of Robert J Dunn and was sentenced to execution. All visitors to the jail were handed a ticket when they arrived; and were required to surrender it when they left the premises. That same morning another prisoner also received a visit from a Mrs Allen. Not too long after, two women with two tickets left the prison. When Mrs Allen tried to leave the prison, she lost her ticket, and was searched and detained. Mrs Jordan was apprehended and ended up having to go to trial. William Sharkey was never seen again, although it was rumored that he went to Havana. Supposedly Mrs Jordan met him there and he treated her badly.
