The Lindy Hop dance emerged around the time of Charles Lindbergh's 1927 transatlantic flight, inspired by the excitement surrounding his achievement. The Lindy Hop, created by George Snowden and Mattie Purnell in 1928, evolved in Harlem from earlier dances like the Charleston, the Texas Tommy, and the breakaway, becoming the iconic version known today. They reinvented the breakaway pattern by accident. Lindbergh's popularity also inspired songs and other dance forms, such as the “Lindbergh Hop,” marking a cultural tribute to his accomplishment.
