Currently under construction, Brooklyn Bridge Park will eventually encompass approximately 85 acres and 1.3 miles of waterfront, running from just north of the Manhattan Bridge to the foot of Atlantic Avenue. The park will mediate a system of new and refurbished connections between the city and the river, becoming a vital urban threshold that provides space for a wide variety of activities and programming, all with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline. Recently opened to the public, Piers One and Six provide a variety of programming including a playground with a variety of swinging experiences and water features, marsh gardens and wetland areas, open lawns for passive recreation and large-scale events, and a kayak launch site. Piers Two through Five will be opened to the public in stages over the next several years, and will include a range of spaces for natural and recreational programming.
