Fence surrounding Alvah Kittredge Park, cut and fabricated steel with black powder coat. A series of 30 symbols in medallions within the fence represent a range of community values, ideas, and concepts from history. The medallions are based on Celtic, West African, German and Native American symbols. Images were selected with the guidance of neighbors and local residents during a series of community public art planning meetings held in 2011 and in the spring of 2012.

Akoko Nan: An abstraction of a hen’s leg, this symbol represents parental protection and nurturing. Based on the proverb, "the hen treads on her chicks but she does not kill them," this speaks to the role of parents to nurture children, yet also a warning not to pamper them.
