Fort Jay is a historic pentagonal fort on Governors Island, built initially during the American Revolution and later reconstructed between 1806 and 1809 under Colonel Jonathan Williams. It was part of the Second American System of fortifications, designed to protect New York Harbor. Notable features include its masonry construction, granite scarp, and barracks for 230 personnel. Over time, it saw updates like new magazines, remodeled barracks, and recreational adaptations. Managed by the National Park Service, it is now preserved as part of Governors Island National Monument.
