Public Passage & Lobby Renovation, 2010
Marvel Architects designed this privately owned through-block public lobby to function as an efficient thoroughfare, a welcoming reception space, and public art gallery. Advanced lighting design and control is key to the project's success; the glowing central lobby desk welcomes visitors while a 200-foot-long door-to-door eye level digital display strip addresses the pedestrian crossing from 57th to 58th Street. The strip features a changing display of digital artworks, adding some welcome variety and visual engagement to the worker who uses the space daily, and a reason to stop in for the art enthusiast or tourist.
