Transfiguration and Stringcourses

Description

It took about a decade from the time that the church was completed for the congregation to secure the funds.  Meiere was asked to create a primitive Byzantine style glass mosaic depicting the Transfiguration scene with Moses and Elijah on either side of Jesus Christ for the apse.  The next problem was to fabricate it and they settled on a German firm, Puhl and Wagner.  Samples were produced.  They were hired.  A year later the installation was complete.    Beneath the Apse is the stringcourse of eight panels illustrating Christian virtues and the characteristics of Christian behavior.
