In 1894, Reverend Charles Parkhurst's City Vigilant League precipitated NY State to appoint State Senator Clarence Lexow to hold extensive hearings at what is now called the Lexow Committee, about corruption in the Police Department. This eventually led to the downfall of Tammany Hall.
