“Edge of the Forest” is a striking 12-foot-tall steel sculpture of a deer by artist Mark Reigelman, located in Vellucci Plaza at the heart of Inman Square, Cambridge. Installed on July 18, 2023, the sculpture was inspired by the history of the area, which was once known as Atwood’s Corner. The piece, nicknamed “Leaf,” highlights the delicate boundary between civilization and wilderness, paying homage to Cambridge’s natural ecosystem and industrial history. The sculpture was assembled by Demiurge in Denver from laser-cut sheets of steel, welded together, and was funded through the City of Cambridge’s Percent-for-Art ordinance and serves as a landmark in the newly reconstructed square.
